Roadmap to climate neutrality
In line with the Paris Agreement and EU climate plans, we intend to become climate neutral by 2050. A detailed timetable will be updated once a new or modified government policy on divestiture of coal assets from energy companies has been presented.
Expected CO2 emissions
The 2020–2023 data presents actual figures (direct carbon emissions from generation of electricity); the data from 2024 has been estimated, assuming the divestiture of coal assets from the Enea Group.
With this strategy, we will be able to gradually reduce carbon emissions and this way reduce the emission factor (kg CO₂/MWh).
Construction of gas and steam units
With no bids received, on 17 October 2023, Enea ELKOGAZ cancelled the tender process for the appointment of a general contractor to develop the project on a brownfield site. On 21 December 2023, Enea Wytwarzanie and Enea ELKOGAZ terminated the contracts from 23 June 2023 with later amendments, from 28 June 2023 and from 25 July 2023 (so called co-sharing contracts) deciding to abandon the project of the construction of gas and steam units in the planned ”brownfield” formula, i.e. replacement of the 200 MWe-class units’ generation capacity with the combustion of the gas fuel technology.
In Q4 2023, the scheme was changed from brownfield to greenfield (i.e. the gas and steam units are set to be developed on a new site, without using the premises with the existing 200 MWe coal units). Enea Wytwarzanie has adopted a unit repair and shutdown schedule based on the coal units, with the 200 MWe units shut down in years 2030–2033.
